November 24, 1920 - March 25, 2015

Cecil M. Charls, age 94 of Prairie City, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Mitchell Village Care Center in Mitchellville. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 30, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at the Prairie City Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Sunday, March 29, 2015, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Memorials may be directed to the Prairie City Church of the Brethren and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

The son of William Samuel and Ethel Josephine (Smith) Charls, Cecil was born on November 24, 1920, in Prairie City, Iowa. He graduated from Prairie City High School in 1940. On April 21, 1945, he was united in marriage to Margaret Louise Willis at the First Congregational Church in Mitchellville. Cecil farmed and later went to work at Ackerman Auto Parts in Des Moines until his retirement. Cecil was originally a member of the Morgan Valley Christian Church and later the Prairie City Church of the Brethren where he was active with several committees. Cecil also served on the Board of Director for Hawkeye Mutual for 10 years, was a member of the Des Moines Township School Board and also the Des Moines Township Clerk. Cecil was very mechanical and enjoyed figuring out how things worked. One of his most proud accomplishments was restoring a 1931 Model A.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Wade Bruce (Leona) Charls and Jane Lynn Charls both of Prairie City; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Eileen Taylor of Prairie City, and a sister-in-law, Barb Charls of Prairie City.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, three children, Marcella Jean Fisher, Janel Lorraine and William Alan; a grandson, Daniel William Sharr and a brother, Dick Charls. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa 25 Mar 2015.
