Grace Van Haaften, 90

Grace (Vander Leest) Van Haaften, passed away at the Pella regional Health Center on April 16, 1999 at the age of ninety years and twenty-seven days.

Grace was born on March 20, 1909, in Jasper County, the daughter of Richard and Maggie (Duinink) Vander Leest.

She was united in marriage with Arie M. Van Haaften on February 5, 1930, in Pella. To this union three children were born; Marvin, Norman and Marcia. They farmed in the Sandridge area until moving to Pella in 1965. Grace enjoyed baking, canning, and handwork. She was a member of the Third Reformed Church in Pella.

She is survived by a son, Norman Van Haaften and his wife, Diane, of Prior Lake, Minn.; a daughter, Marcia De Jong of Pella; a sister, Marie Dieleman and her husband, Dan of Mesa, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Josephine Vander Leest of Pella; ten grandchildren, Steven and his wife, Linda Van Haaften, Karin and her husband, Kevin Hartigan, Douglas Van Haaften, Sandra Van Haaften, Jeffrey Van Haaften, Christopher Van Haaften, Michele and her husband, harlan De Boer, Myra and her husband Carl Green, Marla and her husband, Kevin Van Der Hart, and Marjorie De Jong; and five great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arie; her parents; a infant son, Marvin Edward; a brother, Raymond Vander Leest; and a son-in-law, Myron De Jong.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 19 at the Third Reformed Church in Pella. Rev. Donald Orange officiated. Judy Steenhoek was the organist.

Casket Bearers were Steven Van Haaften, Jeffrey Van Haaften, Douglas Van Haaften, Myra Green, Michele De Boer, Marla Van Der Hart. Honorary Casket Bearers were Sandra Van Haaften, Christopher Van Haaften, Karin Hartigan and Marjorie De Jong.

Interment was held at the Graceland Cemetery. Memorials can be given to the Pella Regional Health Center - Long-term Care Unit. ~ The Diamond Trail News, April 21, 1999
