Lawrence W. Tysseling, 86, of Newton passed away Friday morning, Nov. 19, 2010, at his home at Park Centre in Newton after a short battle with cancer.
A time of celebration and visitation with the family will be from 5 p.m. to 6:30 Wednesday evening, Dec. 8, 2010, in the Garden Room (enter at the southwest entrance of Park Centre). In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lawrence’s name are being designated.
Lawrence W. Tysseling, the son of William Maurice and Julia (Van Zee) Tysseling, was born Sept. 11, 1924, in Pella. He was a graduate of Pella High School and later received a bachelor of science from Central College in Pella. He served his country with the U.S. Air Force during World War II, Korean Conflict and in the Reserves.
On March 8, 1945, Lawrence was united in marriage with Blanche Leathers. To this union two daughters, Karen and Kathy, were born. Blanche would precede Lawrence in death in 1956. On Aug. 2, 1957, Lawrence married Bonnie Anderson in Oskaloosa. They had a son and daughter, Kenneth and Kaye. He was employed as a tire salesman for most of his life, and after retirement worked at Hy-Vee. He devoted his life to his family and friends and was a member of the Oskaloosa American Legion Post #34. He enjoyed wine making, gardening, woodworking and building furniture.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Blanche; his son, Kenneth; a sister, Verna Toye; and four brothers, Marion, Albert, Ray and Harry.
Those left to honor Lawrence’s memory include his wife, Bonnie; his daughter, Karen (Eric) Hansen of Galveston, Texas, and granddaughter Heidi (Daren) Seigel of Galveston, great-grandchildren, Quincy, Zane and Noa, and grandson “Monte” (Lisa) Hansen of Honolulu, Hawaii; his daughter, Kathy (Raleigh) Childress of Goodlettsville, Tenn., and grandson Adam Childress; and his daughter, Kaye (Gary) Kopsa of Newton, and grandsons Austin Kopsa of Ames and Aaron Kopsa of Newton; his sister, Hazel Tysseling of Pella; sister-in-law, Wanda Tysseling of Newton; many nieces and nephews; and his many friends.
