LoRena (Lori) Dodd Wingers, 80, of West Des Moines died on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at Kavanagh on 56th Street. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with entombment at Resthaven Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday with the rosary at 7:30 p.m. at McLaren’s.
The daughter of Amos and Alpha Luing Dodd, LoRena was born on May 18, 1930, in Baxter, Iowa. On Feb. 25, 1950, she married Elmer Williams in Harrison, Alaska. On May 13, 2000, she married Roy Wingers at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Des Moines, where she was a member.
Besides being an excellent homemaker, wife and mother, LoRena enjoyed doing nice things for her family and anyone she could help out. If anyone ever said they wanted or needed anything, she would see to it that they would get it. Always listening to see what they wanted. If you went to her home and said that you liked something, it would go home with you. She was a giver. LoRena also loved to cook, gardening, canning, walking, dancing, biking and, most of all, dressing up and big earrings, which she would love wearing to the Elks Lodge #2752, where she enjoyed the great friendships of the members.
LoRena is survived by her loving husband Elroy “Roy” Wingers; two sons, Terris “Terry” (Marlene) Williams of Urbandale and Timothy “Tim” (Lisa) Williams of Baxter; a daughter, Tami (Rich) Riedman of La Costa, Calif.; two stepsons, Cameron of Kansas City and Bradley of Long Beach, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Sheila (Bill) Jewell of Kansas City and Lauren (Rick) Coffman of Reinbeck; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three step-grandsons; one brother, Lloyd Dodd of Baxter; three sisters, Irene Pierce and Emily Griggs, both of Newton, and Shirley (Darrell) Dee of Baxter; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and four sisters. Memorials may be directed to the family.
