Kraig T. Schilder

Kraig T. Schilder, 53, of rural Grinnell, died on Thursday, November 1, 2001, at his home of cancer.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday November 5, 2001, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church. Burial will be at Ivy Hill Cemetery near Malcom.

He was born on March 22, 1948, in Grinnell, Iowa to Raymond and Katherine Seward Schilder. He was raised on the family farm near Malcom and attended Grinnell schools. he graduated with the class of 1966 from Grinnell High School. Following his education he joined his family in the operation of the family grain and live stock farms near Malcom.

He was a member of the Farm Bureau and National Farmer's Organization. Mr. Schilder was well known throughout the United States as a breeder of outstanding show cattle, and a livestock judge at various local and state livestock shows in the Midwest. His cattle won championships at the International Livestock Show in Chicago, the North American International Livestock Expo in Louisville, Kentucky, and the Kansas City Royal.

He is survived by one son, Troy Schilder of rural Grinnell, two daughters, Brandi Claussen of West Branch, Iowa and Kassi Schilder of Grinnell; one sister, Sharon Medema of Prophetstown, Illinois; and his fiance, Debra Johnston of Baxter.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
