Glen Elscott, 70, of 303 3rd Avenue in Sully, a lifelong Jasper County resident, died Monday, November 2, 1992 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 5 at the Sully First Reformed Church. The Rev. Ralph Menning and Rev. Donald Wooge conducted the service. Burial was in Sully Cemetery. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella handled arrangements.
Memorial contributions to a fund in Mr. Elscott’s name are being accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Verna; two daughters, Phyllis (Mrs. John) De Vries and Francene (Mrs. Richard) Reel, both of Prairie City; four sons; Merlyn of Lynnville, Jerry, Bryce and Dean of Sully; and 15 grandchildren.
Also surviving are five sisters: Jennie (Mrs. Harold) Geurts of Lynnville, Ellen (Mrs. Francis) Van Zante and Grace (Mrs. John) Renaud, both of Pella, and Gladys (Mrs. James) Renaud and Irene, (Mrs. Chadwick) Ver Ploeg, both of Sully.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Elmer.
Mr. Elscott farmed near Taintor until 1952, then in the sully area until his health necessitated his retirement in 1981.
He was a member of the Sully First Reformed Church, had served on the Lynnville-Sully school board, and had served on the boards of the Sully Cooperative, Sully Telephone Association, and Sully Cemetery.
The son of John and Maggie Brand Elscott, he was born May 7, 1933 near Taintor. He was educated in the Case County Grade School.
He was married to Verna Jean Vand3r Beek September 19, 1946 in Sully. The couple moved to Sully in 1984. They enjoyed gardening and camping, and he did woodworking and made toys for his grandchildren.
