Beulah M. Gray, 79, of Newton, Jasper County Home Economist from 1955 to 1973, died of cancer Sunday evening, January 26, 1992 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Graveside rites were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 29 at the Ames City Cemetery. The Rev. Scott Coulter, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church, conducted the services. Reese Funeral Home in Newton handled arrangements.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society are being accepted.
Survivors are a brother, Arthur H. Gray of Waterloo; six nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Wallace.
Miss Gray had been a recipient of the Iowa State University Distinguished Service Award for home economists, and was past president of the Iowa Home Economics Association.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Soroptimist Club.
The daughter of Arthur and Thyra Hytland Gray, she was born April 21, 1912 at Ames, was graduated from New Market High School, and earned her master’s degree from Iowa State University at Ames.
Miss Gray had also taught in high school for two years, was a dietician for the Army, and managed a specialty knitting shop in Los Angeles, California.
