Wanda Ann Abrahams Hiemstra, 57, of Newton, a former longtime resident of the Prairie City community, died Friday, January 17, 1992 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 21 at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be conducted at a later date.
Survivors are four sons: Rodney “Jim” of Newton, Robert and Reed, both of Baxter, and Ronald “Bud” of Prairie City, two daughters, Rhonda (Mrs. Michael) Guy and Rhaellyn Hiemstra, both of Newton; 11 grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Kennedy of Spokane, Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ronald, in 1981.
Mrs. Hiemstra was a 4-H leader for 11 years, a state advisor for the Junior Brown Swiss Association for 10 years and a member of RSVP of Jasper County. She was a member of the Prairie City First Reformed Church.
As well as being a farm wife for many years, she had been a cook in the Prairie City schools and Terrace Lodge in Newton and was a cashier at the Des Moines Airport before her retirement.
The daughter of James and Eliza Marie Saage Abrahams, she was born November 3, 1934 in Winterset.
She lived in Winterset until her move to Prairie City as a 10th grade student. She was a 1953 graduate of Prairie City Community High School.
She was married to Ronald Dee Hiemstra November 12, 1954 in Prairie City.
She lived in the Prairie City area for many years, and later moved to Des Moines and Newton.
