Iris M. (Shepley) Stier, 84, of Newton died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at her son Duane’s home in rural Grinnell.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 8, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery in Newton. Memorials in Iris’s name may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of Arthur E. and Ruth F. (Aebli) Shepley, Iris was born on Oct. 18, 1926, in Northwood, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Leo E. Stier on Dec. 12, 1943 in Lancaster, Mo. Iris was a homemaker, and she and Leo also ran Leo’s Lounge in Kellogg for a few years. She had been a resident of Rural Newton since 1959.
Iris is survived by two sons, Danny (Sue) Stier of Newton and Duane (Joyce) Stier of Grinnell; three daughters, Shirley (Darrel) Arrowood of Newton, Janet (Stan) Astelle of Grinnell and Vicki (Wayne) Prusha of Beebe, Alaska; 16 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Dale, Blaine, Neil and Delbert Shepley; and two sisters, Helen Smith and Delores Nichols.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo in 1998; granddaughter, Carrie Stier; her great-grandson, Kyle Arrowood, in 2002; a brother, Jack; and a sister, Gladys.
