Gene G. Johnson

Gene G. Johnson, 74, of Newton, died of heart failure, Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at Skiff Medical Center.

Memorial services were held Saturday, February 10, 2001 at Pence Funeral Home in Newton with rev. Bruce Feuerbach officiating. Burial was held at Newton Union Cemetery.

The son of P. L. and Rena Gatlin Johnson. Born September 9, 1926 in Grinnell, Iowa. He graduated from Grinnell High School. He was united in marriage to Helen Wyatt-Kling on January 23, 1962 in Newton, Iowa. He was employed at Maytag Company in Newton as a supervisor in the sheet metal department and retired October 1, 1991 after 38 years. He was a member of the Newton V.F.W. Post #1655 and the Maytag Management Club. He enjoyed riding his mobility cart around the Newton square. He enjoyed plants and flowers, but most of all spending the holidays with his grandkids and great grandkids.

Survivors include two sons; Bruce and Mischel Johnson of Mingo, Phillip Johnson of Waterloo, a daughter; Connie and Larry Lakin of Newton, three brothers; Robert and Delores Johnson of Grinnell, Les and Opal Johnson of Lamoni, Iowa, Neil and Pat Johnson Grinnell and a sister-in-law; Arlene Johnson, of Grinnell, eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helen, and a brother, Merton Johnson.
