Henry J. Richards died at his home in our city January 13th, 1894. He was born in Davenport, Sept. 30th, 1853, and was 40 years, 3 months, and 13 days old at his death. When about 19 years of age he came to Newton and resided here until his death, with the exception of four years that he lived on a farm north of the city. In October 1883 he was married to Rachel Coats. To them were born three children. His father’s home is at Altoona. The business of deceased brought him into contact with most people in this part of the county, and he was one of the best known of our citizens. Being a member of the Modern Woodmen, the order took charge of the funeral, which was held at the Congregational church. Rev. C. C. Harrah was the officiating clergyman, and a large number of the public were present to pay their last respects to deceased. The interment took place in Newton Cemetery. The bereaved have the sympathy of our community.
Card of Thanks – Mrs. Richards and family desire to record their sense of thankfulness to the neighbors and friends, whose kindness helped them in the season of affliction; also to the Modern Woodmen, who were the friends of the widow and the fatherless.
