Jan. 16, 1941, she was united in marriage to Paul DePenning in Sully. To this union six children were born. After their marriage they farmed north of Searsboro for seven years and then south of Sully until 1981 when they retired and moved to Pella.

Mrs. DePenning taught rural school for a couple of years. She was a member of Sully First Reformed Church and later Pella Trinity Reformed Church.

Truly her works will follow after her, as she was a kind and helpful neighbor and friend, and most faithful to her Saviour and His church. Gertrude was a very devoted wife and mother, as her family always came first.
