Mrs. M. J. Naudain who has been very low for some time with that dread disease consumption, passed to higher life last Friday evening at eight o’clock aged 53 years. Her death leaves many fond hearts full of sadness. She has been an invalid for the past seven years but has born her afflictions bravely and was to her friends always cheerful. The funeral took place from her late residence Sunday March 11 at 2 p.m. conducted by her pastor Rev. R. T. Smith of the M. E. church of which she was a consistent member, assisted by Rev. J. M. Tool also Rev. Mumford of the U. P. church. The house was crowded with sympathizing friends who came to pay a last tribute of respect to one they loved and admired in life. There were present from abroad the two sons of Mr. Naudain by a former wife, William E. and Alpha Naudain of Algona who knew no difference of a mother she having taken the place of their dead mother when they were little boys. Mrs. Jane Bennett of Mt. Vernon was telegraphed. She was on the way but failed to make train connection at Des Moines and did not arrive till Monday, too late for the funeral. The remains of Mrs. Naudain were inclosed in a beautiful casket covered with ashes of roses plush, the grave was lined with white. The burial services at the cemetery were very impressive. The pall bearers were Messrs. L. M. Shaw, W. Davidson, W. Howard, J. Furgeson, C. Hook, and S. McKee.
“Peace, mourning hearts, thy father knowest best.
His hand alone can lead to perfect rest
Beyond the Valley dark and shadows deep
He giveth thy beloved
Peaceful Sleep.”
