Virgil Lavern Pritchard, 92, of Des Moines, a longtime former resident of Newton, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at his home.
A private family service will be held, and his body has been cremated.

Virgil Lavern Pritchard born September, 29 1917, entered into rest September 26, 2010. Beloved father and devoted Husband. Virgil served in the US Navy as a Chief Aviation Machinist Mate during WW II from 1941 to 1945. He retired from Rock Island Railroad in 1978.
Virgil is survived by his wife of 68 years Claire Pritchard and two children, Rocky Pritchard of Cedar Rapids and Tracy Myers of Hot Springs, AR, ten grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. The family is holding a private service and requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in his name to Iowa Health Home Care Hospice, 11333 Aurora Ave in Urbandale 50322.
