OSKALOOSA — Ronald Ringgenberg, 78, of Oskaloosa died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at the Mahaska Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, at the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Michael Omundson officiating. His body has been cremated. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday morning at the funeral home.

He was born on June 9, 1932, at Clear Lake, Iowa, the son of Lester V. and Mary Hanson Ringgenberg. He attended high school at Newton, and was a standout athlete; participating in four sports all four years of high school. He graduated from Newton High School with the class of 1951. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956. He was in special services and played basketball for the Air Force. He traveled all over the world for tournaments in Europe, Greenland and Iceland to name a few. One of his military basketball career highlights was playing in the World Wide Basketball Tournament in Bermuda. While in the Air Force Ron received engineering training, upon his discharge he furthered his training at Chicago Tech.
On March 19, 1966, he was united in marriage to Judy Miller at Newton, Iowa. Ron was employed for several years at Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as a heavy equipment design engineer. He later worked as Chief Engineer for Superior/Ideal Manufacturing in Oskaloosa. Lastly he worked for Boyt Tool and Die in Des Moines; he retired from there in 1993. Ron was a lifelong avid golfer. He enjoyed 7 hole in one’s during his playing years. He also enjoyed building custom golf clubs for himself and others. He was an avid sports fan his entire life, he especially enjoyed cheering for the Iowa Hawkeye basketball and football teams. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.
His family includes his wife Judy Ringgenberg of Oskaloosa; two children and their spouses: Mark and Bridget Ringgenberg and Lee and Thad Jones all of Oskaloosa; four grandchildren: Megan and Brandt Ringgenberg and Anna May and Jacob Jones; three step grandsons: Wes, Justin and Nick O’Halloran; a brother in law: Jim Miller of Scottsdale, Arizona; and three nephews: Don (& Dawna) Ringgenberg, Kirk Ringgenberg and Kelly (& Claudi) Bollhoefer.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; and his twin brother: Donald Ringgenberg.
Burial of the urn will be in the Forest Cemetery following the memorial service, with military rites given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion, V.F.W. and D.A.V. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice.
