A Lily Faded – Lizzie (Elizabeth H.) McDonald, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. McDonald, was taken sick with diphtheria on Monday, Nov. 18, 1878, but was better and dressed herself Tuesday. She was up and around on Wednesday, and even dressed herself on Thursday, but from that time she grew rapidly worse till 10 minutes of 4 on Friday morning, the 22d, when the hovering angels bore her away “to that beautiful world on high.” The funeral occurred last Sabbath in the Christian church, led by Rev. J. R. Barnes, of Eldora. Lizzie was the light of the household and the lily of her parents’ hearts; but their loss is doubtless her eternal gain, and she is now realizing her oft expressed song wish: “And with the angels stand.” She lacked one day of being nine years and one month old. – Mitchellville News.
