Eldest Son Dies
Whitman Bish of Chicago Passed Away at the Home of His Parents Yesterday Morning
After suffering several months with an incurable trouble, Whitman D. Bish died early yesterday morning at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Bish, 318 North Farmer street. He had been an invalid for a year or longer. A few weeks ago when he realized that he could not recover he wished to be brought home to die. It was two weeks before he died that he arrived in Newton from his home in Chicago.
For a week he was up and around the house part of the time. A week ago yesterday he took a severe cold which developed into pneumonia. He suffered a great deal and for some time before the end came was delirious.
Whitman D. Bish was born November 16, 1868, on a farm in Wild Cat Grove southeast of Newton. He was the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Bish. The family moved to Newton after he had grown to manhood.
For five years he was employed with the Thomson-House Electric Light Co. Then through a recommendation of Henry Vaughan he was given a position by the Western Electric Company in Chicago and moved to that city seventeen years ago where he continued to reside until he came home the last of March.
He returned but once for a visit and that was twelve years ago.
Deceased leaves a wife and three children, Edward, Earl and Mabel of Chicago, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Bish, two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Geo. Turner of Turner and Miss Lulu Bish and Carl Bish of this city.
The funeral was held this afternoon at 1:00 o’clock at the Church of Christ conducted by Rev. William Betts. The singers were Edna Stamper, Florence Burnett and Messrs J. Watson and Harry Morrow. The bearers were: Frank Morrow, Arthur Green, William Johnson, W. E. Hall, D. Stamper and Charles Holden.
The interment was in the Wild Cat Grove cemetery.
Among those who were here for the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. H. A. McDonald and daughter, Miss Winnie of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. George Turner of Turner and M. R. Grant of Menlo, Ia.
