John Jones, 91, Dies Saturday

Funeral services for John Jones, 91, of Greencastle, a longtime Jasper and Story County farmer, were held Monday at the Boyd Nickell Funeral Home in Baxter.

The Rev. T. A. Thompson, pastor of the Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ, conducted the services. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Collins.

Survivors are a son, John T. of Newton; four daughters, Mrs. William (Lila) Dodd of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Minnie Poole of Baxter, Mrs. Joe (Blanche) Soltis of Tacoma, Wash., Kathleen Jones of Seattle, Wash.; a sister Mrs. Vilda Wilson of Westport, Wash., and a brother, Hubert Jones of State Center; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded i death by his wife, Edith, in 1970.

The son of Thomas M. and Melinda Drummond Jones, he was born October 30, 1882 in Smithford, Ill., and attended Illinois and Iowa schools.

He was married to Edith C. Perry June 14, 1904 in Newton.

He died Saturday at the Jasper County home, southeast of Newton. ~ The Jasper County Tribune, Colfax, Ia., Thursday, August 1, 1974
