George F. Giesemann 1921-2011

George F. Giesemann, 89, of 6838 Route 52 S., Dubuque, died peacefully 5:10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque, surrounded by his loving family.

In keeping with his wishes, private family services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 390 N. Grandview Ave. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, St. Donatus, Iowa, where military rites will be accorded by the Bellevue American Legion.

George's life began on March 6, 1921, son of John and Marie (Wiese) Giesemann.

He was an Army veteran, serving in World War II as a staff sergeant.

He married the love of his life, Adela Hueneke, on Oct. 2, 1951, at St. John's Lutheran Church, St. Donatus. Together they had six wonderful children.

George was a dedicated farmer for more than 40 years. He loved nature and animals. He had a great sense of humor and he loved to tease.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Adela; four sons, Bill (Sherry) Giesemann, and their children, Jeremy and Emily (David) Van Wyk, Jim (Karen) Giesemann, and their children, Karissa (Jeff) Kelleher, Josh (Kristi) and Jordan, John (Mary) Giesemann, and their sons, Andrew, Ryan and Nicholas, and Ray Giesemann; a daughter, Ruth Giesemann; six great-grandchildren, Hailee, Logan, Ella and Ayden Kelleher, Jamison and Kinzie Giesemann; and a sister, Verrena Dagitz-Stein.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas; his parents; brothers, Kenneth and Virgil; and a brother-in-law, Paul Hueneke.

In lieu of flowers, a George Giesemann Memorial Fund has been established.
