SIOUX CITY-Verlynn A. Willms, 53, of Sioux City and formerly of Ackley, died following a motorcycle accident on Monday, July 1, 2002, in Sioux City. Memorial services were Wednesday, June 3 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Funeral services were Friday, July 5, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ackley with burial in the Northlawn Memory Gardens in Iowa Falls. Susan Cluts and Diane Martin officiated the service. Military rites were conducted by Elliott-Keninger Post No. 252 of Ackley.
Verlynn was born Sept. 12, 1948, in Iowa Falls to Vernon and Velma Lord Willms. He graduated from Ackley-Geneva High School and enlistsed in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Thailand during the Vietnam War. On April 28, 1984, he married Lynda Schoeneman Drilling at Ackley. They moved to Sioux City in 1987. Verlynn was a truck driver for over 20 years and most recently was an owner-operator for Mid-Continent Trucking in Denison. He enjoyed cooking, motorcycle riding, jazz and blues music.
Survivors include his wife, Lynda, of Sioux City; a son, Jason and his wife, Courtney, of Iowa Falls; three daughters, Tara, and her husband, Mike Bonewitz, of Keystone, Lisa of Ackley, and Nicole and her husband, Alex Punte, of Iowa Falls; his parents, Vernon and Velma Willms of Ackley; two stepsons, Steve Drilling of Clovis, Calif., and Ken Drillings and his wife, Angela, of Raleigh, N.C.; a sister, Vicki, and her husband, Arlen Harken, of Ackley; three brothers, Vaughn and his wife, Elaine, of Ackley, Vince and his wife, Cathy, of Belmond, and Van and his wife, Deb, of Ackley; 10 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
Sietsema Funeral Home of Ackley was in charge of arrangements.
