HOLLAND-Steven R. Starn, 49, of Holland, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City of natural causes. Following cremation, graveside memorial services will be Wednesday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in rural Toledo, with Harvin Meyer officiating. The Toledo American Legion Post will provide full military rites. There will be no visitation and a memorial fund has been established.
Steven was born on March 3, 1953, in Marshalltown to Roy and Elaine (Mason) Starn. He was raised in rural Toledo and received his education there. He was a graduate of South Tama High School in 1971. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1972, and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1976. On Nov. 24, 1990, Steven was united in marriage to Ramona Neessen at the Friends Church in Marshalltown. He had been working at the Swift Packing House in Marshalltown for the last 15 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona, of Holland; a daughter Jessica, and her fiancee Joe Dolash of Liscomb; his mother Elaine of Melbourne; two stepchildren, Tina, and her husband, Terry Olmstead, of Marshalltown, and B.J. Ryerson; two grandchildren, Jordan and Jaydon Dolash; four step-grandchildren, Brittany, Richard, Dennis and Tara; three brothers, Gary of Marshalltown, Richard and his wife, Kathy, of Marshalltown; and David Starn of Melbourne. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy, and one brother.
Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg is in charge of arrangements.
