MARSHALLTOWN -Mercedes Cessford, 81, of Marshalltown, died Saturday, June 15,2002, at her home. Services will be held Wednesday, June 19, at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Marshalltown with Father Louis Jaeger officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
Mercedes was born July 10, 1920, in New Hampton to Theodore and Elizabeth (Zimmer) Streit. She graduated from the New Hampton Catholic School and attended beautician school in Waterloo. She was employed as a licensed beautician with her sisters, under the name of Three Sisters Beauty Salon. On Aug. 30, 1940, Mercedes was united in marriage to Herold Cessford in Iowa Falls. Together they owned and operated CessfordÕs Drive Inn in Des Moines during the late 40s. They later moved to Iowa Falls where her husband was involved with Weaver Construction, and in 1966 moved to Toledo to operate the family construction business, Cessford Construction. Following the death of her husband in 1991, she continued to live in Toledo, moving to Marshalltown in 1996.
She is survived by a daughter, Heidi, and her husband, Steve Krabbe, of Marshalltown; two sisters, Frances, and her husband, Richard Steelman, of Fort Dodge; and Alvera Jensen of Ralston, Neb.; and two grandsons, Ryan and Kyle Krabbe of Marshalltown. She was preceded in death by her parents; a husband, Harold; and a brother, Oscar.
Pursel-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in Marshalltown is in charge of arrangements.
