RADCLIFFE-Donald Robert Amundson, 79, of Nampa, Idaho, died April 9, 2002, at the Veteran's Hospital in Nampa. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 18 at 10:30 a.m. at Lincoln Cemetery, Radcliffe. Rev. Harry Imlay will officiate. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post No. 317.
Donald was born June 18, 1923, to Omer and Borghild Amundson in Bode. He served in World War II as a tail gunner with the 450th Bomb Group, 720th Squadron '94. He was shot down and held captive for 18 months as a German prisoner of war. After the war he traveled to Oregon where he married George Bowman on Aug. 8, 1949. He worked in retail sales for 45 years as store manager for J.C. Penney and R.H. Macy Department stores. When he retired in 1988 he returned to Nampa to live. Don was a member of the Elks Club, American Legion, American Ex-prisoners of War, Purple Heart Society and Sons of Norway. He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Nampa.
He is survived by four sons, Robert of Soldotna, Alaska, Donald and wife Kim of San Jose, Calif., Ronald of Nampa, and Bruce and wife Elaine of Granite Bay, Calif.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Abbas of Iowa Falls and Lavonne Johnson of Webster City; and two brothers, Herbert of Newark, Del., and Roger of Webster City. He was preceded in death by his wife George; his parents; two sisters; and three brothers.
Boeke Funeral Home of Radcliffe was in charge of arrangements.
