UNION-Mamie Biersborn, 92, a longtime resident of Union, died Sunday, June 9, 2002, at Valley View Nursing Center in Eldora. Services will be held Thursday, June 13, at 1:30 p.m. at the Union Community Church of Union with burial in the Union Cemetery. Rev. Rick Schill will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Biersborn Funeral Home in Union with the family present at this time. A memorial fund has been established in her name for the Union Community Church building fund.
Mamie was born March 28, 1910, in Hubbard to Ernest and Bertha Nehring Dreier. Her father died during the flu epidemic in 1918 and her mother remarried to Paul Sievert. She graduated from Eldora High School in 1928 and received a teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught in area schools including the New Providence School. On June 5, 1935, she married Edwin Biersborn in Hubbard. They were the third generation of Biersborns to own and operate the Biersborn Funeral Home in Union, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the Union Community Church, serving as Sunday school superintendent and church organist for 50 years. Mamie was a past Worthy Matron of Order of the Eastern Star and served on the school board during the merger of the Union and Whitten schools.
She is survived by a son, Keith Biersborn, and wife Mary Lou of Union; a daughter, Kathy Priddy, and husband Randy of Belews Creek, N.C.; a brother, Stanley Dreier, and wife Jean of Eldora; a sister, Beatrice Boeke, of Iowa Falls; a half sister, JoAnn Pfaltzgraff, of Indianola; and two granddaughters, Keri and Jami Norman of N.C. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin, in 1986; her stepfather, Paul Sievert; two stepsisters, and a daughter in infancy.
Biersborn Funeral Home of Union is in charge of arrangements.
