WELLSBURG-Clara deNeui, 94, of Wellsburg, died Monday, May 13, 2002, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. Services were held Thursday, May 16 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wellsburg, with burial in Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. Pastor Bruce Zimmerman officiated.

Clara was born Jan. 11, 1908, in Hardin County to Herman and Maria Winter Panthen. She graduated from Eldora High School with a Normal Training Course in 1925 and taught five years in Hardin County. On Aug. 11, 1932, she married Abe deNeui in Eldora. They farmed northwest of Wellsburg for 36 years and moved into Wellsburg in 1968. They celebrated 59 years of marriage at the time of his death. She moved to Friendship Manor in Wellsburg in 1994 and to the Presbyterian Village in May 2002. Clara was a charter member of the St. John Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was a choir member. She was active in 4-H, library board, Grundy County Fair and county extension boards.

She is survived by a son, Ronald and wife, Karen, of Wellsburg; two daughters, Kathleen Janssen and husband, Alfred, of Waverly, and Carol Zimmerman and husband, Tim, of Iowa City; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and a sister Pauline deNeui of Winterset. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; six sisters; and two brothers.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of arrangements.
