APLINGTON-Viola Gieseke, 81, of Aplington, died Thursday, May 9, 2002, at Maple Manor Village in Aplington. Services were held Sunday, May 12 at the Aplington Baptist Church with interment at Pleasant View Cemetery, Aplington. Rev. Donald Patet officiated.

Viola was born May 31, 1920, to Carl and Hattie Bruns Gieseke near Aplington. She graduated from Aplington High School. For most of her life she lived with and took care of her father. For a few years she worked at a seed company. She was a member of the Aplington Baptist Church and was the church pianist for several years and secretary of the Ladies Aid. Viola enjoyed reading in her spare time.

She is survived by three nephews, Lee Gieseke and wife, Evelyn, of Derby, Kan., Lowell Gieseke and wife, Gayle, of Edenton, N.C., and Larry Gieseke and wife, Diane, of Richfield, Minn.; five nieces and nephews, Mark, Lisa, Heather, Nathan and Tony Gieseke. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, LeRoy.

Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel of Aplington, was in charge of arrangements.
