ACKLEY-Viola Janssen, 88, of Ackley, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. Services will be held Wednesday, April 24 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ in Ackley, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Ackley. Rev. Michael Dack will officiate.
Viola was born March 18, 1914, near Hampton, to Ray and Maude Sherer Hobson. She graduated from Hampton High School in 1931 and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On May 28, 1936, she married Frances Caton. She married her second husband, Henry "Heinie" Janssen on Sept. 30, 1961. Viola taught school and did office work. She moved to the Presbyterian Village in December 2000. She was a member of PEO, Crescent Club, Women's Club, and three bridge clubs. She enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and gardening.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Linne and husband, Henry, of Coralville; Patricia Barlow and husband, Charles, of Schaller; two grandchildren, Michael Barlow of Storm Lake, and Susan Barlow of Atkinson, Neb.; two sisters-in-law, Isabelle Hobson of Humboldt, and Lois Hobson of Cherokee; and a brother-in-law, Russell Wagner of Geneva. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; a stillborn son; a sister, Helen Wagner and three brothers, Robert, John and Kenneth Hobson.
Sietsema Funeral Home of Ackley, is in charge of arrangements.
