Obituary of B. W. Johnson

Ben W. Johnson was born Nov. 21, 1856, at Stavanger, Norway. He died at the home of his son Nels Johnson of Stanhope April 1, 1934. At the time of his death he was 78 years, 4 months and 10 days of age. He was united in marriage to Olina Olson in Lee county, Ill., June 4, 1879. The following year they moved to Hamilton county, Iowa, where they became engaged in agriculture. After having lived on a farm 39 years they moved to Story City in 1919. Eight children were born to this union. Four died in infancy. The surviving children are Mrs. Caroline Olson of Mapleton, Minn., Mr. Will Johnson of Delavan, Minn., Mrs. Helmer Haugland of Stanhope and Nels Johnson also of Stanhope. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Jake Hoversten of Roland. Mr. Johnson's beloved wife died Nov. 23, 1930, and he had lived in Story City until a year ago when he moved to Stanhope to the home of his son.
