GILBERT KNUDSON DIED AT JEWELL

Prominent Jewell Citizen Succumbed Friday After Long Illness

Gilbert Knudson, 65, prominent in Jewell since 1875 and widely known over the state for his activity in banking, church, educational and political circles, died at his home last Friday night. He had been in poor health for the past two years with nerve ailment. His wife and five children were with him when death came.

Coming to Jewell in 1875 Mr. Knudson was for a time on a farm near the town. Later he engaged in the implement business with L. O. Carey. Still later he served 11 years as postmaster. He had been president of the Jewell school board some 12 years and was president of both the Ellsworth and Jewell State banks. By profession he was an auctioneer.

He was born May 31 at New Sharon and was married at Jewell in 1895 to Miss Metta Catherine Ferbitz. Six children were born to this union, of whom five survive. They are: Irving of Ellsworth, Mrs. Clarice Rindahl of Bismarck, N.D., Mrs. Ardys Beaver of Chicago, Mrs. Katheryn Haugan of Minneapolis and Gilbert Jr. of Fort Dodge.
