Friday, August 18, 2000Sylvia Nokes, 86, Webster City, died Wednesday, August 16, 2000 at the Iowa Lutheran Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Revs. John Grebner and Doug Bullock-Tiffany officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. on Friday and prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Sylvia Lenora Hanson, daughter of Ludwig and Sarah Larson Hanson, was born March 24, 1914 at Lake Crystal. On November 6, 1935 she married Francis Sterling Nokes at Butternut, MN. The couple farmed near Lake Crystal until 1950 when they moved to a farm west of Eagle Grove. In 1955, they moved to Webster City. She had worked for Morton Frozen Foods for 12 years and Franklins (Frigidaire) for six years. She retired in 1976. Mr. Nokes died in 1978. She continued to reside in Webster City.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Francis and Yvonne Nokes, Williamsburg; Don and Pat Nokes, Webster City; daughters and son-in-law, LaDonna and Roy Yeager, Russellville, AR, Lorene Burnett, Webster City; 14 grandchildren, sisters, Laura Goth, San Raphael, CA; Lillian Peterson, New Smyrna Beach, FL; Phyllis Lynch, Clarks Grove, MN; Vivian VanderLowe, Lake Crystal, MN; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, RaNee Barton; two grandsons, her parents, brothers Harold and Arnold Hanson, sisters Florence Anfinson, Irene Jones, Audrey Anderson and Pearl Hanson.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Ruth Circle, the Bible Study Group and Retirees of U.A.W.
