Barbara Kunkle, late consort of Benj- Kunkle, died at her home in Bayard on the 10th inst. Barbara Edmonds was born in Dauphin county, Pennsylvania, January 10, 1812. She was married to Benjamin Kunkle in Union county, Pennsylvania, October 1, 1831, near 54 years ago. They afterward moved to Ohio, from there to Iowa in 1847, and moved to Guthrie county in 1849-the first family to make permanent settlement in this county. She was the mother of ten children, six of whom preceeded the mother to the grave. She united with the M. E. Church in 1836. The first Methodist sermon preached in Guthrie county and the first Methodist society organized were both effected in her house. Three of her children followed her remains to the tomb. Mother Kunkle was a good woman lived to the good age of 72 years. Rev. A.J. Barton conducted her funeral services.
