Died, at the residence of her father Samual Reed, in Guthrie Center Iowa, December 1, 1881, Mrs. Amanda A McLuen in the 29th year of age.

The deceased was born in Guernsey County, Ohio, Feb 24, 1852, and immigrated to Guthrie county in 1858 with her fathers family, being then in early childhood life. In this town and vicinity she grew to adult age, receiving her education in such schools as this little village afforded, and here her adult life was spent.
In 1872 she was married to Albert McLuen, and to them were born two children. Her husband dying some four years ago. About two years ago one of the children left in her care died and sometime after she was taken with consumptive systems. Her disease baffled all efforts for its cure and for some months it has been evident that her days were numbered.
Some six years ago, giving heed to religious obligation, she attached herself, under the ministry of the Rev. D. C. Adams, with the Baptist church in this place. In its communion she passed away, fully ready for the final summons. Wednesday evening it was thought that she could not survive the night, but morning came; enjoying perfect consciousness to the last, and in perfect confidence in the merits of the one blessed Savior, in the early hour of the day she asked her brother, Elder C. F. Reed to pray with her. As the prayer closed and the waiting sorrowing ones arose from their knees, the fight was fought, the final victory won; the last enemy was conquered and one more life released from earthly suffering entered into rest.

The funeral discourse was preached by Elder Sutton. A large congregation, many of them friends of years gathered in the sad service. The aged parents, the brothers, sisters and friends sorrow but the righteous have hope in death.
