It is possible that John W. Krauss was the son of Bartholomew Krause (1837-1930) and Anna Kraus (1833-1919) who are buried at the Strawberry Point Cemetery in Clayton County. The couple are found in Putnam township in 1870 as Gross and 1880 as Krouse. The "1878 History of Fayette County", Putnam township directory section, has listing for P. Kraus, a farmer living in section 14. Their children were John (b. abt. 1859), Margaret (b. abt. 1866), Elizabeth (b. abt. 1868) and Wilhelmina (b. abt. 1874).
