Delbert "Del" Connolly, 79, of 989 Mount Loretta, died at 10:40 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Phillip Kruse officiating and the Rev. Michael Hutchins, SVD, as homilist. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Placid, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 3 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Council 510 rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Connolly worked as a barber for 16 years, and then at John Deere Dubuque Works for 17 years. He retired from John Deere in 1989.

He was born on April 15, 1926, on a farm near Placid, son of Patrick J. and Agnes (Anthoine) Connolly. He was raised by his grandparents. He married Madelyn Hutchins on May 14, 1960, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, North Garryowen.

He graduated from the Peosta (Iowa) High School. He also graduated from Barber College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He served 18 months with the Army in Korea, during the Korean War.

He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He enjoyed farming, golfing and traveling.

Surviving are his wife, Madelyn; daughter, Kathy (Tim Schwanz), of Waterloo, Iowa; son, Pat (Paula) Connolly, of Anoka, Minn.; daughter, Lisa (Bernie Hook), of Mounds View, Minn.; grandchildren; Kathy's children, Jeremy, Kevin and Ryan; Pat's children, Chelley, Michaela and Sarah; and Lisa's children, Alicia, Alan and Faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, the Rev. Lloyd Connolly; and two sisters, Imelda and Velma.

The family wishes to thank all the family and friends who called and visited Dell, and also Hospice of Dubuque, for all their wonderful care.
