EPWORTH, Iowa - Albertha K. Soppe, 87, of 210 Austin Court, Epworth, died at 2:50 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2006, at Heritage Manor, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church, Placid, with the Rev, Joseph L. Hauer and the Rev. Raymond Burkle officiating. Assisting Deacons will be Jerry Koopmann and James Kean. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

She was born on Aug. 3, 1918, in Worthington, daughter of George and Anna (Demmer) Kelchen. She married Reynold H. Soppe on Oct. 18, 1937, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello.

She received her education in the Worthington and Cascade area schools.

She was a member of St. John's Parish in Placid, Iowa.

Surviving are three sons, Louis (Jeri) Soppe, of Monticello, and Loras (Erma) Soppe and Leo (Donna) Soppe, both of Cascade; five daughters, Connie (George) Helle, of Anamosa, Diane (Al) Nerney, of New Holland, Ill., Carol Oberbroeckling, of Epworth, Beverly (Dave) Holz, of Dubuque, and Deborah (John) Steger, of Dyersville; a daughter-in-law, Doris Soppe of Dyersville; 33 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry (Rita) Soppe, of Galena, Ill., Sister Agnetis Soppe and Sister Antonita Soppe, both of Mount St. Francis, Dubuque, Clerus Soppe, of Dubuque, and Mercedes Berryhill, of Rock Island, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Reynold H. Soppe, on March 12, 1967; a son, Andrew Soppe, in 1988; a granddaughter, Wanda Helle-Eilers, in 1993; a son-in-law, Bill Oberbroeckling, in 1996; and a brother, Vincent Kelchen, in 2002.

An Albertha K. Soppe Memorial Fund has been established.

The family of Albertha would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque and the staff of Heritage Manor for all the wonderful care they gave to Albertha.
