FARLEY, Iowa -- Irene M. Kennedy, 93, of Farley, formerly of Placid, died at 2:10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center-Dyersville.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at St. John's Catholic Church, Placid, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Placid. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a wake service at 2 p.m., a Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary at 4 p.m., and the Farley American Legion will meet at 6 p.m.

She was born on Aug. 23, 1917, in New Melleray, rural Peosta, daughter of Michael and Mary Ellen (O'Regan) Callahan. She was a graduate of the former Visitation Academy in Dubuque.

She married Quirin Kennedy on Nov. 18, 1944, at Holy Family Catholic Church, New Melleray; he preceded her in death on May 9, 1984.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Presentation Court 1460 of Farley.

Surviving are two sons, Mike (Susan) Kennedy, of Farley, and Jim (Deb) Kennedy, of Epworth; two daughters, Mary Beth (Bill) Hollenback, of Farley, and Peg (John) Palmer, of Dyersville; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Walter, Cy, Ralph, Joseph, Jerry and Paul; and two sisters, Grace O'Brien and Mary Ann Callahan.
