PLACID, Iowa - Donald M. Casey, 54, of 6862 Then Road, Placid, rural Epworth, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, as the result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Holy Cross Road, north of Farley.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church, Placid, with the Rev. Thomas McDermott officiating and the Rev. Raymond Burkle concelebrating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Placid, where military rites will be accorded by the Farley American Legion Post 656. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, where there will be a Farley American Legion Service at 6:45 p.m., and a wake service at 8 p.m.

Mr. Casey farmed in the rural Placid area.

He was born on May 26, 1948, in Dubuque, son of Melvin V. and Irene (Connolly) Casey. He married Julie McDermott on Oct. 24, 1970, at St. John's Catholic Church, Placid.

He received his education at the former St. John's School, Placid. Donald was a veteran, having served in the National Guard. He was a member of St. John's Parish, Placid, and a member of the Farley American Legion Post 656.

Surviving are his wife, Julie Casey, of Placid; five children, Nick (Carri) Casey, of Hiawatha, Rachel (Steve) McDermott, of Placid, Luke Casey, of Epworth, Eric Casey, of Cedar Rapids, and Sarah Casey, of Placid; three grandchildren; his mother, Irene Casey, of Epworth; a brother, Robert (Mary Jane) Casey, of Placid; and two sisters, Donna (Kenneth) Nauman and Mary (Wayne) Beitzel, both of Epworth.

He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin V. Casey, on May 21, 1992; and a brother, Joseph Melvin Casey, on March 17, 1945.

A Donald M. Casey Memorial Fund has been established.
