Allen John Atchison, 59, of 2204½ Rhomberg Ave., formerly of 2662 Jackson St., died at 4:50 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, after a short battle with cancer.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, at Mueller Memorial Chapel in Linwood Cemetery, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. The Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Aug. 24, 1948, in Dubuque, son of Benjamin Roy and Margaret Bertha (Wolter) Atchison. He was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School, Class of 1966.

He was employed by the City of Dubuque as the Zamboni operator at the Five Flags Center ice rink for eight years.

Allen enjoyed playing pool and singing karaoke. He also had a talent for drawing. His greatest joy was a day spent fishing. Allen was always ready to help anyone in need.

Surviving are two sisters, Debra K. (Louis) LuGrain and Gayle L. Atchison; four brothers, Wesley R. "Ray" (Wanda) Atchison, Benjamin M. "Dude" Atchison, George F. (Kim Hittenmiller) Atchison and John P. Atchison, all of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

An Allen J. Atchison Memorial Fund has been established.
