William J. Fowler

COLUMBUS JUNCTION -- Dr. William J. Fowler, 87, a resident of Columbus Junction the past ten years and a retired Methodist minister, died at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, January 9 (1971), at Mercy hospital in Iowa City.

Among the churches Dr. Fowler had served were: the Burlington Asbury Methodist Church, and the Methodist churches at Sigourney, Jefferson, Victor and Knoxville.

Dr. Fowler had a B. A. from Iowa Wesleyan college, Doctor of Divinity from Drew Seminary, Madison, N. J., and an honorary doctorate from Iowa Wesleyan.

He was born March 30, 1888 at Pella, the son of William and Jeanette Johnston Fowler.

He was married in Burlington September 9, 1908, to Myrtle Walker.

Surviving: The wife; one son Bill Fowler, Pine Beach, Florida, four daughters, Mrs. C. A Benz, Gaithersburg, Maryland, Mrs. R. C. Mayberry, Omaha, Nebraska, Mrs. R. G. Schlicher, Cedar Falls; Mrs. William McGinnis, Columbus Junction; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral: Monday, 2 p.m. United Methodist church Columbus Junction, Reverend Harold M. Olson, Columbus City cemetery. The body is at Stacy-Lewis funeral home, Columbus Junction. A memorial has been established.
