LaVena Wallentine

LaVena P. Wallentine, 84, of Topeka, Kan., died Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, in a hospital in Oklahoma City. She became ill while visiting her daughter, Carol.

Born July 27, 1913, in Sutton, Neb., she was the daughter of Conrad and Margaret Preisendorf Scheideman. She married Everett H. Wallentine Oct. 23, 1946, in Burlington. He died Feb. 8, 1970.

She spent her early years in Nebraska and later moved to Burlington, where she graduated from Burlington High School in 1933. She later moved to Topeka, where she was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and Joy Club.

She played the piano and often gave musical programs at Topeka care homes.

Survivors include one son, Jerry Wallentine of Topeka; three daughters, Carol J. Vanderburg of Oklahoma City, Okla., Gail A. McGaugh of Henderson, Texas, and Patti L. Stirrett of Topeka; one brother, Dan Scheideman of Burlington; and 10 grandchildren.

The funeral for Mrs. Wallentine was held Oct. 7, with burial in National Cemetery at Leavenworth, Kan.
