Mrs. Johanna W. Rodin, 84, who lost 2 sons in World War I and had 6 grandsons in service in World War 2, died at her home, 616 S. 6th street, at 4 a.m. Tuesday after an extended illness.
She was born in Gastrickland(sic), Sweden, Aug. 16, 1860 and came to Burlington in 1881. She married Charles P. Rodin, whom she had known in Sweden, Sept. 28, 1881. He died Nov. 9, 1934.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran church, the Royal Neighbors, VFW auxiliary, legion auxiliary, and Gold Star mothers.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs. Hanna Duden of Galesburg and Mrs. John Rowley of Burlington; 2 sons, Gus of Davenport and Guy of Burlington; a brother, Fred T. Westlund, Franklay, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Anna Storm in Sweden.
Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Six of the grandsons are in service. Charles and John Rowley are now in the states after 19 months in the S. Pacific; Guy Rowley is now discharged, served as a marine corps gunner for 15 months and saw action in the Aleutians and S. Pacific; Tom Rowley is in the army air corps in Alaska; Charles Rodin is serving in the navy in the S. Pacific, and Evald Rodin is at marine officers' training school in Virginia. Four sons, a daughter and a son are dead.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Burnett-Wallen funeral home. Rev. Russell Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
