Old Resident Dead
Bernard Sourwine Passed Away After Long Illness.
Deceased was Born in Illinois and Lived in the Des Moines County Many Years
Bernard Sourwine, one of the best and most favorably known residents of Burlington, passed away at his home, 1604 South Thirteenth street, yesterday afternoon after an illness extending over a period of two weeks. He had been declining in health for some time and the end came as a relief from his great suffering.
The deceased was born in Illinois, February 6, 1843. He moved to Iowa when quite young and had lived in this county for many years. During the many years of his residence in Des Moines county Mr. Sourwine proved himself to be one of the real noblemen of life and did many things that are sure to bring their reward in the other world.
During the time his health permitted active work, the deceased employed his time in farming and in the dairy business. He conducted a dairy for many years before his health became so poor that he was forced to retire from all active work and take the declining years of his life in ease and comfort.
Never once during his long years in the besiness and work-a-day world did Mr. Sourwine do a dishonest act and the memory he has bequethed to his many descendents is a beautiful one indeed. Kind and loving at all times he endeared himself to many people and his death, while not a surprise, will come as a shock to the many friends of the deceased.
Mr. Sourwine leaves the widow, Mrs. Catherine Sourwine, formerly Catherine Sauer, a daughter of the late Philip Sauer, and the following children, Ben Sourwine, Charles Sourwine, Mrs. George E Miller of Weaver, Ia., George E. Sourwine and Clarence Sourwine. There are twelve grandchildren. He is also mourned by two brothers, William Sourwine and John Tressel.Burlington Daily Gazette, Apr. 1, 1914
