Valery E. Grothe, 76, of Osceola died at 9:30 a.m. Friday, November 5, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Born May 24, 1928, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William Joseph and Marie Stoize Grothe.

Ms. Grothe was a U. S. Post Office clerk in Los Angeles.

She was a 1946 graduate of St. Paul Catholic High School. She was of the Catholic faith. She loved the outdoors, as well as sewing her noted patchwork hot pads.

Survivors include one brother, Robert Grothe of Danville; one sister, Gretchen Taylor of Danville; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Prugh's Chapel. A rosary will be recited before the funeral service.

The funeral service for Ms. Grothe will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Thomas Reilman officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
