Mrs. Minnie Johannah Rice

Mrs. Minnie Johannah Rice, 72, of Mediapolis, a life resident of Des Moines County, died at 7:05 p.m. Friday at St. Francis hospital after a brief illness.

She was born June 8, 1877, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Cook(SIC) and was married to John Rice March 5, 1895 in Des Moines County, before moving to Mediapolis two years ago, the couple farmed east of Kingston in North Jackson township.

Surviving are her husband, 14 children, Mrs. Hazel Shultz, Mrs. Edna Smith, Ralph and Harold Rice, all of Mediapolis; Mrs. Esther Whitaker, Oakville; Mrs. Hattie Senn, East Moline, Ill.; Mrs. Grace Gorham, Kearney, Neb.; Mrs. Lena Kramer, Mrs. Mabel Duffy, Mrs. Mary Lou Yedlick, Mrs. Nellie Hand, Mrs. Ruby Engel, and Edward and Johnnie Rice, all of Burlington.

Also surviving are 55 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Mary ____, Burlington, and a brother, John Dannies, Burlington. Two daughters and a brother are dead.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Methodist Church at Mediapolis. The cortege will leave Prugh's chapel at 1:15 p.m. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery.
