DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Richard F. "Dick" Wagner, 81, of Dyersville, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at Good Neighbor Home, Manchester.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Jerry Kopacek officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 137 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4:30 p.m. and an American Legion Post 137 and VFW Post 7736 Service at 7 p.m.

Mr. Wagner was a cheese maker and milk hauler. He was involved in the dairy business his entire life.

He was born on April 15, 1923, in Darlington, Wis., son of Tony and Jenny (Howard) Wagner. He married Ruth Pink on May 20, 1944, in Darlington.

He was a World War II veteran and was an armed gunner on a Merchant Marine ship.

He was a life member of the American Legion and VFW. He also was a member of the Country Club. Dick loved going to the timber to cut wood, and was an avid outdoors-man. He enjoyed visiting his friends at the nursing homes.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth; six sons, Tony (Doris), Greg (Elaine) and Bill (Geri), all of Dyersville, Bob (Sandy), of Baraboo, Wis., Tom (Sandy), of Iowa City, and Mark (Micky) of Earlville; two daughters, Mary Kay (Aaron) Chambers, of Winterset, and Ann (Marty) Maiers, of Iowa City; 25 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Virginia and Pauline Wagner.
