WORTHINGTON, Iowa - Herbert R. Fessler, 70, of Worthington, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Phil Kruse officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where a parish rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.

He was born on March 14, 1938, in Worthington, son of John Jr. and Rose (Roling) Fessler. He married Barbara J. Torrey on April 28, 1962 in Dyersville.

Herbert worked at Modernfold for 40 years until retiring in 2000.

In his spare time, he enjoyed crafting and woodworking.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara; two sisters, Rita Bremer, of Solon, and Joan Lasche, of Earlville; father-in-law, Cecil Torrey, of Guttenberg; brother-in-law, Keith Torrey, of Guttenberg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Catherine Reittinger; mother-in-law, Arlene Torrey; and a brother-in-law, Bob Bremer.
