DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Roger E. Deutmeyer, 83, of Dyersville, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City due to heart complications.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Dennis Quint officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 137. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville.

Roger was born on Feb. 18, 1929, in Petersburg, son of Gregor and Josephine "Olive" (Lueck) Deutmeyer. He married Germaine Prier on Nov. 18, 1953, at Holy Cross.

He was a dealership implement mechanic, traveling much of Eastern Iowa to perform on-farm service.

Roger was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Germaine; nine children, Marian (Bill) Tauke, of Earlville, Alice (Paul) Greenwood, of Epworth, Joan (LaVern) Honkomp, Joyce (Mark) Wessels, Jan (Terry) Goedken and Cathy Ann Deutmeyer, all of Dyersville, Paul (Jean) Deutmeyer, of Worthington, Charlie (Carrie) Deutmeyer, of New Vienna, and Steve (Cheri) Deutmeyer, of Eldora; 18 grandchildren, Jenny (Jason) Domeyer, Tammy (Mike) O'Brien, Melissa (Tim) Noyce, Matthew Greenwood, Rob (Amber) Honkomp, Jeremy Honkomp (Kayla Ludwig), Brittany Honkomp, Amy (Brian) Brunsman, Brian (Dawn) Deutmeyer, Casey (Tony) Reinert, Niki (Adam) Lahr, Carisa Wessels (Marty Mensen), Brett Wessels (Teri Deutmeyer), Corey (Margo) Goedken, Emily Goedken (Robbie Phillips), Jared (Caitlyn) Deutmeyer, Nicole Deutmeyer (Joe Ament) and Boe Deutmeyer; 12 great-grandchildren, Parker, Autumn and Blake Domeyer, Brayden and Kaelyn O'Brien, Clara Noyce, Gabby and Luke Brunsman, Hannah Reinert, Mackenzie Deutmeyer, Liam Goedken and Preston Deutmeyer; siblings, Tom (Liz) Deutmeyer, of Petersburg, and Ruth Sellner, of Manchester; and brothers- and-sisters-in-law, Eugene Prier, of New Vienna, Marvin (Eunice) Prier, of Manchester, Gerry (Marilyn) Prier, Edward (Eileen) Prier Jr. and Charlie (Janet) Prier, all of Dyersville, Willie (Bonnie) Prier, of Dubuque, Kay (Ambrose) Eilers, of Monticello, and Loras (Mary Ellen) Prier, of Cedar Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Joey Greenwood; two brothers, David and James Deutmeyer; parents-in-law, Edward and Lucille (Lansing) Prier; sisters-in-law, Wilma Prier and Lucille Prier; and brother-in-law, Joe Sellner.
