Ethelyn grew up in Palo and graduated from Palo High School in 1947. She received her teaching degree in business education from the University of Iowa in 1951.

On June 12, 1955, Ethelyn was united in marriage to John H. LeClere at Central Park Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids. Ethelyn first taught at Monticello then at West Delaware for over 18 years.

Ethelyn enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes and was an avid West Delaware fan. She loved shopping, gardening, cooking, and trying new recipes to share with family and friends. Ethelyn received pleasure celebrating the holidays and other get-togethers with her family and friends.

Nothing was more important to Ethelyn than her family that includes her husband, John of Manchester; three sons, John (Trish) LeClere and Tom (Renee) LeClere of Manchester, and Larry (Pam Jones) LeClere of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota; five grandsons, Brent, Andrew, Drew, Brad, and Jordan; and one sister, Margaret (Max) Hoyt of Lewes, Delaware. They will all miss her deeply.

Ethelyn was preceded in death by her parents.
