Mrs. W. H. Hollister

The Press announced last week the death, at her home on Franklin street in this city, of Mrs. W. H. Hollister, who passes away on the 8th instant at the age of 79 years. The funeral of Mrs. Hollister was held from her late residence on Saturday afternoon, the sermon by Rev. Mr. Black of the Methodist Episcopal church. Interment in Oakland cemetery.

Margaret E. Wilcox was born in Mayville, Chautauqua county, New York, July 27, 1831, and was married to Wm. H. Hollister in March, 1849. Mr. and Mrs. Hollister resided at Westfield, New York, until 1852, when they came west, locating first in Boone county, Illinois, where they remained until the spring of 1855, when they removed to this county and located on a farm three and one-half miles northeast of Manchester. There they resided until the fall of 1900, when they took up their home here. Mr. Hollister passed away on July 3, 1903.

To Mr. and Mrs. Hollister were born eight children, seven of whom survive. These are Wm. H. Hollister, jr., who has lived with and cared for his mother since the death of the father; John J. Hollister of this city, George F. of Waterloo; Alson A. of Wessington, South Dakota; Horace A. of Champaign, Illinois; Ella M., wife of L. A. Clute, living near Greeley.

Mrs. Hollister’s life was marked by a sincere and earnest Christian faith and devotion to the church of her choice, the Methodist Episcopal, to which she gave her alliance forty-five years ago. In all the relations of useful living, as wife, mother and friend, she exemplified the simple and happy virtues of fidelity, loyalty, charity of man and kindliness of heart. She had richly earned the rest and happiness upon which she has entered.

Typed, from an unlabeled copy of the newspaper clipping in my possession, 3/5/2011 by Linda J. H. Curtis. I presume she died 1910 in Delaware, Delaware, IA, as she is listed on the census there on the 1910 Federal Census and is buried in the Oakland Cemetery in Manchester.
