C. Warren Hillier, 85, of Manchester, died at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, June 5, 2010. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, at United Methodist Church, Manchester, with the Rev. Roger Henry. Interment, with military rites: Oakland Cemetery. Visitation: 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, with a Knights of Pythias service at 6 p.m., and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

He was born in Manchester on May 21, 1925, the son of Clarence and Inez (Starbird) Hillier. Warren was raised and educated in the area and was a 1943 Manchester High School graduate. Warren was united in marriage to Mona Irene Haley in 1944. He served honorably in the United States Army during World War II from 1945 to 1946 as a military policeman in Austria. After his return from the service he farmed in rural Prairie Township for 62 years. Mona died in 1982 and in 1984, Mary Jane Schmitt and Warren were married. He retired from farming in 1990.

Warren was the oldest member of the United Methodist church at the time of his death. He also was a member of the American Legion, Grange and Knights of Pythias.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Hillier of Manchester; his five children, Russell (Susan) Hillier of San Antonio, Texas, Larry Hillier of North Liberty, Michael (Dianna) Hillier of Monticello, Dianne (Brad) Gray of Mound, Minn., and Joanne (Mike) Wade of Manchester; one stepdaughter, Linda (Dennis) Johnson of West Chicago, Ill.; 13 grandchildren, Tina (Rob) Cromer, Dexter (Melody) Hillier, Melissa Butikofer, Angie Hillier, Greg (Deanna) Hillier, Laura (Devens) Smith, Andrew Burlage, Jennifer (Charles) Yackulic, James Wade, Ivy (Eric) Evans, Kayleen (Adam) Welsbacher, Jenny (Matt) Tracey and Tina (Darrel) Patzner; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Warren was preceded in death by his first wife, Mona in 1982; one son, Crag Hillier in infancy; his parents; two sisters, Janet Klinghammer and Charmion Slife; and two brothers, John and Robert.
